FAQ

Everything you might want to know before your first lesson. Don’t see your question? Get in touch.

Is the trial lesson really free?

Yes — every new student starts with a free 30-minute trial lesson. We’ll do a skill evaluation at the piano, answer all your questions, talk through scheduling and goals, and you’ll leave with a list of the books you’ll need. No card required, no obligation. The only cost to families is the books themselves.

Do you offer in-person lessons?

Yes! In addition to Zoom lessons, I offer in-person lessons where I come to you — no studio commute. If you’re local to the Bay Area and prefer learning face to face, just mention it when you book your trial and we’ll set it up.

How do online piano lessons work?

We meet one-on-one over Zoom. You’ll get a camera angle set up so I can see your hands (a phone on a cheap tripod works great), and I’ll guide you in real time — exactly like an in-person lesson, minus the drive.

What equipment do I need?

A piano or keyboard (61+ keys is fine to start, 88 weighted keys is ideal), plus for Zoom lessons a device with a camera and a reliable internet connection. You’ll also need the books from your trial-lesson list — I keep those affordable and only assign what we’ll actually use.

How much do lessons cost?

Your first 30-minute trial lesson is free. After that, lessons are $100 for 60 minutes, one-on-one, over Zoom or in person. You pay securely online when you book, and every lesson includes full access to the video course library.

What ages and levels do you teach?

All ages and all levels — children and adults, complete beginners through advanced players. My teaching style is patient and supportive: whether you’re six and finding middle C or sixty and returning after decades, you’ll be encouraged, never rushed.

What can we work on?

Whatever your goals call for: technique, music theory, repertoire in any style, exam/recital/audition preparation — or completely casual, interest-based learning if you just want to enjoy the instrument. Every student gets a personalized lesson plan.

What times are available?

I teach Monday through Saturday, 8:00am to 6:00pm Pacific time. You can see live availability and book instantly on the booking page.

What is the video course library?

A structured curriculum of short video lessons — four levels, from your first notes through advanced technique and styles. Work through them between live lessons and mark each one complete to track your progress.

What if I need to reschedule?

Life happens! You can manage your bookings from the My Lessons page, or just call, text, or email me and we’ll find a new time.
